Healthy Pets Are Happy Pets !!

Did you know that the average lifespan of humans has increased dramatically in the past 20 years?  That in spite of all the new dangers in our world.  Two things have contributed to that ... better health care and more emphasis on a healthy lifestyle.

What we all want is for our Pets to live longer!

According to
"How Long Do Dogs Live? (Dog Lifespan)" by Michele Welton, smaller dogs live longer on average than do larger dogs.  There are several obvious factors that contribute to this:

  • Less stress on the heart (works far less to pump blood through a smaller body)
  • Less stress on hips and joints
  • Smaller dogs are more often kept indoors
This is not an all inclusive list, but it gives you an idea that many factors can play into the lifespan of your pet including some that you cannot control such as genetic inheritance.  There are some things that you can definitely do to not only increase your pet's lifespan ... but also its quality of life.  Below is a brief list:
  1. WATER - All living things depend on water!  Are you providing good, clean, Fresh Water for Your Pet Dog or Cat ?  Is the container you place it in clean and free of bacteria?
  2. FLEAS & MOSQUITOES are not only irritating to the skin, but they are carriers of diseases that can quickly shorten your pets life and harm its quality of life too.  Are you insuring that your pet stays Flea, Tick and Mosquito free?
  3. NUTRITION - Humans have learned the link between good nutrition and good health.  It is the same for your pets.  Feed them quality food, but consider American Kennel Club approved supplements ... especially for hips and joints.
There are many other things one can do ... and nothing beats love and quality time.  Maybe we will write more on this subject soon.
